I have been reading his (Michael Pollan) book “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” and really, it is quite scary what meat they sell at the grocery stores. Pretty hard to do the same to the veggies, and I understand why a lot of people are turning vegetarians. (I have not finished the book to this date.)
I guess I am still lucky that my in-laws raise beef (so they are grass-fed using our big grass fields), pork and chickens (eating anything from kitchen scraps and organic grains), so that I get tough but very healthy beef, fresh smelling pork and chicken plus the freshest eggs. I have 3 freezers for the meat for a whole year’s supply.
I feel sorry for the farmers, though, as many here really would want to raise good quality meats by dictates of their conscience and knowing there is big demand, but there is no support from the government, and on top of that, virtually the government, with all the regulations they place on such small scale farms, tend to kill these small farms right away.
